Life is Free

7-1-16 Life is free

Not only do we not know what this is, or why this is, or how it works, but the miracle is that we don’t have to.  Life will continue on without our intervention, our control, our will.

It’s free for us.  We pay nothing.  We owe nothing.  It’s given to us.  It incorporates us.

When I say it is free for us, I acknowledge that we must make some effort for food and shelter, and a basic relationship with others, but the ability to do so comes from the larger order, which we don’t have to maintain.

Even our entrance (birth) and exit (death) are a given.  We do nothing to arrive and nothing to leave.  The body will stop when the body stops.  We may jump off a cliff but our last willful act of jumping is not death until the body determines it so.

The anxiety we feel in living is our attempt to control some aspect of what is going on, what we want to happen, what we desire, what we feel will benefit our ideas of what should be.

Everything that is here – the sun, the air, water, the ground, gravity, plants, our bodies, our thought process, are given to us.  Given – no fee, no toll, no accounts.  And we can do most anything, even what is not healthy for us.  We may become sick, we may hasten our death, but all is possible.  Out of ignorance, we may misuse this gift, but the possibility to realign with Life is there.  We can assess the consequences of our actions and try again.  Life is forgiving and yet may allow even our own demise if we are so insistent.
